RESPECT

There was once a time when a woman wanted to be treated like a woman and not like a broad, bitch, or slut. The new generation of woman though doesn’t care about respect or status they are more worried about appealing to the opposite sex and how they respond to them. Women no longer care if they appear loose or easy, they are only worried about snatching a man with deep pockets.

These women also are searching to marry above their status or at least in the lifestyle in which they are accustomed to. They don’t care if it is a drug dealer or a NBA player who has just been drafted, as long as they have access to t heir money. These women will down play their upbringing and their pedigree to fit in with these types of men lifestyle. As women we usually take a back seat to our men and let them shine, but in the new world order women are running the household and still working. Women are fighting other women over men in public and also in their private homes.

The internet hasn’t helped this aspect of relationships, if anything it has made relationships harder to manage. Social networks have made some women believe in relationships that didn’t exist and they have also broken up homes because it allows for millions of people to become involved in relationships that they are not part of. Men have also failed to keep up their role as a man. Not just a man in a relationship, but as a man who stands for something besides the size of his bank account or the size of the appendage in his pants.

Women are pushing good men out of the household in order to keep up with their friends and what they consider is a good enough man for them. When did paying the bills, loving another person, providing those needs which no one else can fulfill for a person become not enough. A man or woman who has a good relationship that has the potential to become a gr eat relationship will not put in the extra work because society has shown them that the old ways are outdated. There are less couples getting married today and more children growing up in broken homes. No one truly understands t he effects of their actions on children who didn’t ask to come into this world. Mothers it is just as much your responsibility as a man, if you don’t want children act responsibly.

Men if you know the woman you are seeing is not the kind of woman you would like to have children with then you should cut your ties and not lead her on like a real m an would or at least act responsibility. For if no one respects themselves how can they expect anyone else to show them any respect. Black men and women the same way the communities come together when there is a clear threat formed against it, that same love should be shown everyday where you live because those are your neighborhoods. You can’t com- plain about what is being taken from you if you are giving it away.

We can’t depend on only our NBA or NFL stars to come back to the old neighborhoods and give back, we need those who are there every day to show the youth in our neighborhoods there are positive black men and women. Children learn to respect four places; home, school, church, and the streets, you have to control what your child is taking in. I believe the old saying “it takes a village to raise children,” but you want to make sure it ’s the right village. Those single parent homes need the extra help, but without all the judgment that government resources usually enforce on them. Little girl s need to be taught that they are precious and not just a plaything for boys.

Little girls are dreaming of snatching up the richest man they can find and they don’t care who or what they have to step on to get there. Society is showing them that this acceptable with the numerous television shows and the need for material things. We need to stop letting television and the internet raise our children. Something’s are not meant for everyone and we need to put our foot down and take more control over what our children see. Times have changed but to throw away everything from the past would be a cruel injustice. Respect yourself and you will learn to respect others.

Something About Purpose

Until we share our deepest fears or strongest desires we are mere shells of ourselves. Maybe the day will come
when we talk of our innermost wants but today is not that day. At this particular juncture the theme is purpose. How
many times have we sat thinking vision clear, target acquired; then someone we love, someone we trusted with our
being told us – no, not that. Your goals are too high. What if you fail. Then began to tell of others they were acquainted
with who suffered from falls similar to the one they have already predicted for us. This could be their version of the
protective shield of love they covered us in. Reminiscent of plastic on sofa’s to keep them stainless. We all know
whether used or unused time has a way of leaving its mark.

I prefer sometimes to use analogies: Let’s say I’m walking toward my given destination and the road less taken is now
covered by a baseball field? I would rather not play games, so I walk the trail still slightly marked if you look hard
enough. Long before I reach the diamond it seems no one has traveled this way since the mighty oaks were young.
As I stroll aimlessly across the diamond there is a pick up baseball game. In my approach everyone begins to yell go
to first! Hey! Go to first! I look around knowing all the while I’m not playing, so what do I do. Normally if not focused I
would listen to the cry of the masses and take first base leaving my destiny unattainable. I on the other hand always
hope I could be the one to yell back. This trail was here before the diamond….. I’m just passing through! I can’t afford
to lose my place again! and continue with my forward progress.

Here we are members of everything streaming; MySpace, Twitter, You Tube, Facebook, Tagg, Mingle City, Reverb
Nation, Black Planet, Linked In, Instagram, every Greet-Up and Meet-Up internet site our friends send us links to. I

have to believe you are here with the same purpose I wear like loose gloves, hoping to somehow by accident or os-
mosis find a way to propel my dreams higher than I could toss them myself. This is the place. Right here and now, not

a second early or a minute late I believe we were meant to be at this time. Together we possess the ability not to do
the same as other individuals but so much more. We only have a small window to make up our minds if we are a
group, a unit or to remain on this journey alone. I must admit I can’t do it on my own. I need everyone who ever closed
one eye to get a better look at a dream only they were able to see. Maybe you are not yet a believer, don’t worry as
we grow; we all enter the realm of understanding that nothing beats a failure but a try. So help me to help you and
together we can make this vision of a united Family of Artist a formidable force in what ever area you live in. Not just
for slam or open mics all performance venues, including all forms of the art.

I thank you for reading, if you are surly like me wanting this to be more than a mere stop in our never ending search
for purpose. We may not be in control of much, but we do control our mouse clicks. Each and every one of us is just

one click away from being noticed. The world wide web has endowed us with the marketability to reach a global audi-
ence. We possess the power to move past the usual circles we run in just by clicking. There are enough television

shows depicting the funny and the senseless. Their usual occurrence of a million hits on YouTube, and hundreds of
thousands of like clicks has me baffled. While the conscious videos never have many viewers at all. We can change
this or rather we have to change this. There is something about purpose making me understand we have no option

but to. There is something about the way we sound as we move forward, soldieristically marching, giving us motiva-
tion, energy and strength to keep going. The sound of progress has only one motion……… forward ONLY.

What is it about your partner that inspires you as you feed off each other’s skills?

His diversity and skill.

How do you handle conflict with each other?

Haven’t had any.

What advice do you think the other person is known for giving?

“ Do you.” He always encourages others to find their voice, and use it.

What are the perks of working with another poet as a team?

Never running out of ideas, always having someone to support and motivate you, and learning/trying new styles.

Give 5 qualities that you see that are inspiring about your partner that they might not realize about themselves.

1. Mental strength. 2. Ability to easily keep poetic and personal business separate. 3. Ability to find the bright/humorous side to almost every situation. 4. Ability to get “in character” quickly. 5. Encouraging words/ways.

Would you work with each other for another book & why?

Yes, because we work well together.

How do you see your poetry impacting your life in the next 5 years?

Seeing how many doors poetry has opened for me in the past 2 years, I can only see that improving over the next 5

what about poetry caught your attention to where it made you want to start write it?

I’ve been writing poetry since middle school. I enjoy t he different rhythms and being able to paint pictures with words.

How would you describe your style of work?

I don’t have one specific style that I use. If I had to give it a title, I would simply call it Rhythmic Rambling

What made you decide to partner up with someone & did it make a difference because that person was a man in- stead of a woman?

My first collab came about due to a challenge issued in a poetry group on FB. No, it didn’t make a difference.

How do you think being a woman has helped or hurt your efforts in the poetry field?

Being a woman gives me a certain insight that shines through in my work; that can only help.

What is something people will be surprised to know about you & your partner with your up & coming book?

The majority of our pieces were written via inbox before we ever met face to face.

What writers inspire you to write & why?

I can’t really say that certain writers inspire me as I don’t get to read for pleasure that much.

What advice would you give to a classroom full of kids learning about poetry for the first time?

Have fun and let the words flow

Do you think making poetry mainstream takes away from the craft? Why?

No. Poetry should never be put in a box and to say that you’ re “making poetry mainstream” is to imply that it wasn’t before.

If you could go on a cross country tour showcasing your work to people where would you go & why?

Every state in the union, because everybody can use a little poetry in their lives.

What motivates you to write?

Everything

What’s one question you wish people would ask you & one you wished they stop asking?

There’s no question I wished they’d ask, but I wish they’d stop asking me whether or not my collab partner and I collab off the page as well or as much as we do on.

Storm Racers by: Karmel

The storm was the music used for their dance

The shaking from the thunder only served to enhance

The vibrations they were caus ing as they moved together

This was the reason that they loved this type of weather

No need for candles as the lighting flashed all around

No need to be quiet because the thunder masked the sounds

While the storm intimidated some and had others afraid

They were like two kids who freely played

They played in the bed they played on the floor

The strength of the storm made them want to play more

He was hungry for a meal that only she could provide

He was the only horse around for her to ride

As long as the rain continued falling

He made sure that his name she was calling

And she returned the favor as they tossed and turned

Using every single thing that she had ever learned

About how to please h while trying new things

Loving the freedom that the storms always bring

Moans and screams scratches and sweat

This would be a storm they wouldn’t soon forget

As the wind quieted and the drops began to slow

They moved back to the bed for their final crescendo

As the storm was ending so were they

Covered in salty rain together they lay

Satisfied for the moment shaking yet warm

Already thinking of the next time they could race a storm

Mojados by: Eric H. Allen

laying at the edge of the beach

Where water blends with sand

At the precise point of…

Mutual orgasms

Liquids consume us

Like blankets

Then disappear

As the tide de-constricts

Like vertebrate

Back into infinite ocean

Mojados mojados mojados

Wet all over

As your coast trembles

I lick your sea salty nips…

The skin pricks

From your nails

Refocus my stride

Just as the incoming

tide Rushes us again

Yet settles

Our bodies imprint

Upon sand like monuments

Estamos Mojados…. Mojados… Mojados

We become islands

Surrounded in replenish-able

residues…

As I continue to fill you At half mast

It is your pools

That sooth me

While gazing

deeper into your puddles

You penetrate me

Subtly with words that mature

Softly requesting more

Placing your hands

Between you and I

As water cleanse us

It is we that bless the oceans

As our tide Now drifts out to sea I see the you in we…

Kissing liquid mental’s

Mojados Mojados Mojados

Our continents Now liquefy in love

Maneuvers exercise

Defined restraint

As one sensually Breathing as we…

Caught in coves of Bless’d bliss

So deepest

That I have become you

Touched by your inner most pearl

She fondles my tip With unlit abyss pressure less…

Estamos Mojados…. Mojados…Mojados… Mojados… Mojados

What made you realize you wanted to write?

I started writing in high school, but to be honest though, I wanted to pur-
sue drawing, because I found drawing more interesting than writing. It

wasn’t until my 10th grade English teacher, gave me the inspiration to
pursue writing and finding a poem that my mother wrote, to push me and
influence the poetical side of me to come out.

How do you think being in the military has helped your writing?
The military gave me the edge and the fire I really needed to let myself
go and just really express how I feel without regard to what anyone has to
say or think. It also allowed me to go through some good times and bad
times which allowed me to open my eyes to a lot of different emotions
that I had lingering inside for so long.

Your work touches a lot of readers because its personal & relatable how
do find the courage to be as open as you are when you write?
I put my heart and soul into every poem I write, whether it’s about what
I’m feeling at that time, what I see in life, and just out of pure happiness.
I’m just a simple person with the love to express myself and share with
those who feel the same way.

What is a misconception people have about you?
The biggest misconception to me is that people can’t seem to get a
read on me! Like all, everybody has their days when you don’t want to
be bothered, yet I walk around like that the majority of the time, unless
I’m around those who know me. I’ve upset a lot of individuals who
thought I was arrogant, nonchalant, or just angry all the time, when

really I could have had the best day ever, but refuse to let those indi-
viduals bring me down by saying irrelevant things to do so…

If you could create a new show on bet & discovery channel what would
it be & who would be in it?
Good question, because I haven’t come remotely close to thinking
about anything like that. If I were to create a new show, it would have
to be something like Def Poetry Jam, but catered to more of a broader
audience to reach those who are interested in poetry and/or writing. I
would call the show, “Express Yourself”

Why do you think library’s in schools today need more choices for kids
to pick to read when it comes to the arts?

Believe it or not, tomorrow’s generation will be more inclined to tech-
nology than to liberal arts and it’s actually starting to show now! I have

a 7 year old son, that’s more into video games and things of that na-
ture than he is about reading, writing, or finding ways to express him-
self. Our libraries have plenty of choices for kids to pick up and read,

it’s our children who have to be interested enough to even pick up a
book.

What do you think is the hardest thing for you to write that you haven’t
shared yet?

The hardest thing/person for me to write about would probably be about
my father, though I love him with everything I have, but we didn’t have the
best relationship as far as father and son. He wasn’t always around when
I needed him the most, so I had my grandfather, who was more of a dad
to me while I was growing up! I have no grudges with my dad, because
he is my dad and I will always love him for who he created, for what he’s
done to mold me, and for giving me the best of him whenever I was
around him!

If a young poet ask you how to find inspiration what advise would you
give?

For a young up and coming poet, who were looking for inspiration, I

would give him the advice I didn’t get once I actively started writing seri-
ously…

“Inspiration starts from within! If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else
will!” Keep a strong support system around you to help you cope with the
ups and downs of life, because life is a very testy situation we all face. I
think the biggest piece of advice I will give a young poet is, no matter how
lame you think your poem is to you,
someone else will find the light in your work. Whether it be a word, a line,
or even the title, don’t be afraid to share yourself with the world or your
circle. And always…
BE YOU!
No one can take your style from you!

Eye of Isis: The Lost Relic

Eye of Isis: The Lost Relic is the first installment of The Prophecy series. It kicks off the saga, making a introduction, following the exploits of wannabe archeologist explorer, Amanda McCain.

Amanda gets contacted by old acquaintances, the Petrovics, Ryan and Matthew, and they’re father Sol. Ryan is 19 and Matthew is 20, and they both follow in they’re fathers footsteps. Sol specializes in the Ancient Artifacts department at a university in Manhattan. Sol informs Amanda of old manuscripts which recount t he last few years of a reign of Leonard II, a captain of the leadership of Cortez, the Spanish Conquistador. In the manuscripts, it tells the legend of the Rainbow Stone, a religious icon that the Spanish failed to plunder. Legend says that the Rainbow Stone is a map, leaving a rainbow trail to the infamous Eye of Isis . The manuscripts also tell of a evil ruler named Saquèt, that ruled the Inca, Mayan, and Aztec land.

To put a stop to the evil forces, the three cultures joined together. Three Priests battled and defeated Saquèt and entombed his spirit in a mystical orb. From that day, the orb was titled the Rainbow Stone, because of Saquèt’s powers evolving in the orb . The orb was then sealed in the vast Temple of Orpheus, Orpheus being a Roman tyrant. Him and his men then took the Rainbow Stone and the ancient manuscripts when they were conquering land. After King Orpheus died, his disciples put the Rainbow Stone in hi s temple they built for his legacy, which sunk under water after a brutal earthquake.

Sol locates the temple on the Gulf of Mexico. Him and his sons seem to be aware of “interested parties” acquiring whereabouts of the manuscripts, but unsure of their motives, tell Amanda nothing. The four go on a wild but dangerous exploration for the Rainbow Stone and the manuscripts to recover the Eye of Isis, but they find themselves in a deadly race to stop a bio-terrorist and his organization from using the Eye of Isis for evil, unleashing a dangerous world-wide plague.

Sword of Aero Add-On:

Amanda visits her friend Tilly O’Toole at her fathers museum in Bronx. The theft of a mystical sword takes place. Giving chase, Amanda catches up with the thieves, but s he is cut by the sword and left in a alley way for dead. Amanda’s wound get treated, but from the cut, Amanda is placed under a curse and has become the host for Ma- dame Alexia, a evil witch fortune teller spirit, who rose to power in the 1800’s in Oregon, using black magic and sacrificing people. Madame Alexia is also the leader of the Aero cu lt. Her disciples search for a host, (who at this point is Amanda), to bring they’re master back to life. Unless Amanda can defeat the Aero cult and break the Aero Sword, Amanda will cease to exist and Madame Alexia will be resurrected

“Foundation”

May your souls be forever intertwined
An ageless love grows like a rose vine
A foundation built on love alone
Together once again, the heavens you can rome
He was called home first to find a place
Never leaving your side, you were kept in good
grace
As he watched over you, always keeping you safe
Knowing one day that you would take your place

Beside your king as his queen to lay the foundation

For your family to return, a written manifestation
Though it was hard seeing you leave us all alone
We know that one day, we will soon return home
Our tears of grief are only momentary
As life goes on, I’ll admit it gets kind of scary
That we will be called home to see you all again
We live in your memories which will never end….

2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons honey mustard
Salt and ground black pepper

Cut turkey into bite-size pieces and set aside.

Arrange the mixed greens on salad plates or large serving plat-
ter. Top with turkey, strawberries, kiwi, and cashews.

In a small bowl, whisk together broth, honey, sesame oil, and
honey mustard. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Pour
mixture over turkey and spinach salad.

Sweet Potato balls

Ingredients
• 4 large sweet potatoes
• 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice
• 1 teaspoon orange zest
• 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
• 2 cups shredded coconut, sweetened
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 large marshmallow per potato ball

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Bake the potatoes until tender, then peel and mash them. Stir in the brown
sugar, orange juice, zest and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, toss the coconut

with the sugar and cinnamon. Press mashed potatoes around each marshmal-
low, creating a 2 to 3-inch diameter ball. Roll the balls in the coconut mixture.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Watch carefully for the last few minutes of cooking;
the expanding marshmallows can cause the potato balls to burst open.
