If poetry could be called anything other than poetry…..I think of Nelson Wrytings. Here’s why
How would you describe your writing style?
It is an eclectic blind of experience and a visual understanding of what I comprehend through feelings. The pen takes on a mind of its own.
Where do you find the motivation for your writing?
I find inspiration from all corners, something like a leaf floating. I would not say or consider my writing to have to be motivated, more so time has arrived to release on a larger scale boarder.
Who are your favorite writers and what pieces of yours were inspired by them?
Pablo Neruda and Andre, but philosophy is my biggest embellishment while writing. When writing love or lust my pieces embrace raw delicate notes as Pablo. As for 3Stacks I use to read his verses to understand the intricacies in his transitions. I do have a piece written with all Prince songs.
How do you stop others from putting you into one category like erotica poetry, and prove your more than that?
Simply put, once I realized I did not have great command of myself, I moved more spiritually for some years to mature learned. This gathering of knowledge forged me label less in categorization. I am boundless energy and have zero to prove to people and more to offer to the universe.
What’s your favorite memory about performing?
To know and have worked with a respectable number of people there are too many to disrespect with only one performance. To pluck a conversation with Seth at the Shadow Bar in the earliest of after a performance. I lost to him in a heads-up slam and not that I felt low for losing it was his mentoring of the moment. Those bits of words grew my intellect to understand the sway of a live audience or reader and forged me to reach deeper.
Is this your first book and if so why?
My first to publish yes, yet I have a couple headed to the editor block in 25 and 26. The plan is to send two per year until the novel is ready. You know puzzle piecing together my catalog collage of writings.
You love to do collaborations with other poets, why?
It is a forgotten art of growth for me then know, but there is a lustful book never published with Karmel the Poet. I did ménage over the airwaves years ago. I have a fire book collab with Kim of Apotheosis Epidemic of Galveston where we answer each other poem for poem so where.
Your one of Houston’s best, who do you look forward to seeing when you go out?
I do not really go out to venues anymore for a variety of reasons. Travel for work being the biggest and one of the best is a complaint for sure and thank you.
What advice would you give someone who thinks poetry is a waste of energy and time?
I will just loosely quote a line from an up-and-coming book. “Even the fool possesses wise tendencies. To be more direct to each their own and I never address ignorance for does that not make one a little ignorant.
How would you describe your writing in your new project?
One is the detailed account of love, loss, and the struggles of finding yourself amongst the aftermaths. The major description is a high percentage of taking responsibility for the role that you play in your life! When you open a window, you better calculate the variances of what may enter from your exiting thoughts.
Do you think there is still an unbalance when it comes to men vs women performing poetry? Why or why not?
The only unbalance is the depth of reach by the person’s writing and then stage presentation in my view. Of course, women frequent spots more and thus the works should cater to enhance the ear. The other thankful thought is that work should not be one dimensional, direction of the work cannot be self-centered to selfishness and pain, or joy must be conveyed from the heart.
What is something that people would be interested in knowing about you?
I am a socially introverted Virgo. I have a collection of vinyl and antique typewriters. Most of the vinyl is barcode less and the oldest typewriter is late 1800’s which predates the QWERTY keyboard. The typewriters are in working condition, three of them are Hermes and one of which types in cursive.
What challenges would you say are difficult but still doable when it comes to publishing your work?
Discipline is the biggest challenge because writers are built to write and now one has to be a self-publisher! This requires diversification of projects for longevity with marketing, clothing, brand building and other things if you want to be monetarily self-sustaining.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Digesting the fruits of my labor from the trials of publishing. I am so focused in the next two years to get to the five-year mark. I would have to see the inspiration of someone like Deep the now play write, I still hold the poem “They Got Billie” in the highest regard yest she is more than a poetess!
What are the pros and cons of being a poet?
Yet pro and con be equal in the advancement of the individual. Pros and cons link you to a world almost forgotten but shall never be replaced. The hardest con is possibly the selfish brilliance to love your work so much and not release it to the public. A great pro is the self-growth.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Listening, loving, and learning myself is the best project. Well, what do you know the three “L’s” aren’t just location. The greatest projects are my two young adults and assisting them with their stories. I have yet to write and publish my grandest of favorites, time is yielding for it though. I will let you know that perhaps on the next interview.
How many books do you see yourself publishing?
I have 6 total in the works now, two at the publisher and 4 over the next 3 years. To mention 4 screen plays and 3 fully brainstormed novels. I would not stunt myself in quantifying a number of books that I will publish, I will just write until my flesh ceases motion and then atomize into the next.
Have you ever thought about expanding your writing into other writing formats? If so what?
Laughing, I answered seventeen before reading eighteen. The only thing that I would not write lengthy about is religion in its single multitude of forms. That is because I live of the spiritual connection with the universe. I am on a journey with the pen and not vise versa. I’ve even ghost written for females and the reader none the wiser audience on verbal intake.
If you could perform for anyone who would it be and why?
I reach more to breach a mass number of people through writing and traditional readings. The only person I can think of is my father. He is the biggest icon I would want to listen to my development. I hold no other in that high regard.
What name do you go by when you’re performing and why that name?
Nelson Wrytings is my author’s name and as you know I have gone by a few over the decades. The why is an internal established cohesiveness that brings a level of peace when I whisper it to myself.
When will your future project be out for others to read?
February of the first quarter for LGS poetry and March-ish for the self-assistance book. Then a lot of promotion while working a full-time travel career.
What advice would you give young men of today about their future?
I give all young people this takeaway, learn command of yourself first deeply before colliding with another spirit. The building of you, monetary holdings in your kingdom spiritually must be done initially until about 25 or 27 and focus on your health. Experience yourself, see the world, get a passport young and pre-check TSA once you realize waiting in line is not for you. Spend money and waste time in the direction of your vision’s future.
How does everyday life inspire you?
I inspire everyday life!
