I do not attribute my writing or lack there of to social media.
Do you remember your first time going to the mic?
My first time going to the mic- like an actual Microphone- was in 5th grade to share my DARE poem. In college-we spoke in the library without a mic- but in 2005 I entered a poetry slam and flew to DC and shared the poems I’d written in 4th grade…
What do you like about slam poetry?
I love how they cram so much in a few minutes…masters of brevity and executioners of expression.
Do you believe that things have changed for women in poetry?
Most definitely…
Do we get the same respect as
the men?

What do you think we could do to improve the poetry scene in Houston?
Support it:

How do you try to make a change in poetry in Houston?
I encourage poets to breathe and use the mic for what it can do not for what it has done,

I’d love to work with them all…but who came to mind was a list…a divine list of excellent creatives!
What is your favorite piece that you’ve written?
I’m more in awe of the moments that have been captured!
If you could travel anywhere to spread your poetry where would you go?
I’d like to get in the system like Lucy did.
What advice would you give to someone who’s a virgin to the mic?
Breathe, in for 3 out for 7…this is the experience
